Early motor development in China: secular trends among 4-year-olds

Changes in physical activity levels and increases screen time across different cohorts may affect young children’s motor skill development (MSD). This study examined cohort differences MSD China. Four-year-olds living Shanghai Guizhou province were assessed, individual sessions, 2013 (n = 230) 2017 446). Controlling for age, parental education, gender, height, weight, overall development, scores significantly lower than both Guizhou. Parental education moderated these differences. Declines be due to increased time, higher of air pollution, decreased access safe, outdoor spaces. The decline skills regions suggests that appropriate timely interventions are needed support Chinese MSD.
